FYI
Rangers turned us away from Alum Rock Park in San Jose this
morning. A female mountain lion and kitten were spotted near a
fresh deer kill just off the trail we were about to enter, searching
for a letterbox. They consider the female lion to be very dangerous
with a kitten to care for.

Are you sure the Rangers were really Rangers? Sounds like a plot by those geocachers to deny letterboxers access....the war continues!

ROFL!! He was standing out in the cold dressed like Smokey the
Bear. If he was a geocacher, he was REALLY dedicated!

I had to re-read this one. I thought for a minute there that the mountain lion was searching for a letterbox. :)

Wild! When we looked for these letterboxes a few years back, we
only saw a tarantula and a snake along the trail. Never even
thought to look for cougars!

Oops, sorry about the misplaced clause. I could claim it was a test
to see if anyone was paying attention.... Good thing I wasn't an
English major!

I imagine seeing a tarantula and a snake along the trail clued you
into the possibility that this might be a pretty wild place. You
forgot to mention the pterodactyl flying overhead. ;-)

With the protection afforded to cougars here in Ca. I think we should get used to having continual problems with the big cats. It would be supprising if we observe many along the trail, but you should assume they are there and are checking you out. Sometimes being a tough old Buzzard works as they probably are looking for something more tender.
On another subject
When Gwen & I started seeing "dvn2r ckr" in various letterboxes we had a bet as to what her name was. I thought it was "Dive into Rocker" and she thought it was "Divan to Rocker" . Upon writing this mysterious letterboxer, we found out we were both wrong, but still use our pet names whenever we see dvn2r ckr.
